Dave Hirst running over the dead ball line PRICELSS!!!
A long mini bus journey to East Grinstead on a beautiful Saturday in Feb faced H&B as they set off to play the team in 2nd place just 1 place above them. With only Bill Langley as a recognised front row the task ahead was always going to be hard. The first half started with Matt Dawes and Rodger Kingston helping out as props with Simon Mapstone and Jo Ward in the 2nd row. The Game started well with H&B taking full control for the first 20 minutes, and Captain Phil Begg, taking the ball from Brian McNeilly's hands, crashed over for a try from an 8-meter penalty. Peter Eames converted this to make it 7-0.This seamed to wake up East Grinstead who the came back at H&B and were soon level. Not long after East Grinstead then added to their total and by Half time lead 19-7. Mat Dawes wimped off at half time and utility player Phil Begg went from fullback to Prop Nick Beaney came on in the centre and Peter Eames dropped to fullback. Into the second half and H&B wing Dave Hirst crossed the try line unchallenged only to do his Forrest Gump impression and carry on running over the dead ball line and on to the next pitch. When the 30 players and the ref stopped laughing the game continued, H&B again went over the twice more both called a held-up, frustrated even more as East Grinstead stretched their lead to 26-7. McNeilly off replaced by Karl Bramwell and John Fisher replaced Dave Hirst for the last 15 minuets. John Fisher's first touch was on the opposing wing as he was obstructed, this led to hand bags at the OK Coral and both players being sin binned. The game ended soon after as al the players made to the bar to discus Dave Hirst's moment of madness and what he may have in store for our entertainment next week
