On a damp Saturday in February H&B it’s development side made up of experience and youth for this friendly against a team that beat H&B convincingly in December. A side ranging from a front row average age 49ish (Brooks Dobson and Upton) down to 17 year olds in the side of Ward, even Tony Peak managed to make his first full game of the season. The first points on the board came after only a few minuets as H&B took the game to the opposition, the H&B pack setting up clean ball for centre Matt Bumpuss to storm through their defence and out pace everyone to score under the posts. This was converted by full back Milham East Peckham came straight back from the kick off and levelled the scores 7-7 after only 15 minutes. Off came Brian McNeilly suffering from man flu on came chef inspector Gouch to police the wing, soon more changes were forced on H&B as youngster Dominic Sewell had to leave the field (damaged shoulder) allowing Tim Gough on as flanker. In a tight game H&B were soon awarded a penalty, which was converted by Milham now playing flanker. ½ time came and more changes to H&B as Phil Begg and Rodger Kingston came on to freshen up the pack .H&B were to score next through some strong running from Milham who dually converted to make it 17-7.East Peckham then upped their game and as H&B started to annoy the ref and see decisions going against them, soon found the scores 17-19 through two trys and one conversion. H&B then applied pressure on the East Peckham defence and with 10 minutes remaining were awarded a penalty slotted by Milham to make it 20-19 and all to play for. The next 10 minutes were end to end as both teams pushed for victory by it was H&B who managed to hold for the win.
